Self‐Reversed Magnetization in Sediments Caused by Greigite Alteration

چکیده
Multipolarity remanence in greigite-bearing sediments has long been recognized, but the cause of this anomalous behavior is not well understood. Here, we use electron microscopic and magnetic analyses to investigate origin such multipolarity Miocene from Pannonian Basin (Hungary). We find a softening partial transformation iron sulfides magnetite pyrrhotite “single-polarity” “multi-polarity” samples. The inward alteration sulfide grains topotactic size-dependent with higher smaller grains. propose multi-phase self-reversal chemical remanent magnetization (CRM) mechanism altered greigite: neoformed magnetite/pyrrhotite shell acquires CRM coupled opposite direction primary greigite core, likely through magnetostatic interactions or interfacial exchange between closely contacting core shell. This new model can explain commonly observed antiparallel polarities broad geochronological, tectonic paleoenvironmental implications.

Correct and timely maintenance of power lines and substations has an important impact on the operation and optimization of the production cycle and distribution of electricity. In this way, proper and timely maintenance and repair of these lines can reduce losses, sudden defects, and thus reduce and optimize consumption. One of the most important components of transmission and distribution netw...
متن کاملMagnetic properties of Lake Lisan and Holocene Dead Sea sediments and the fi delity of chemical and detrital remanent magnetization
We have studied the magnetic properties of wet and dry late Pleistocene Lake Lisan sediments and the Holocene Dead Sea sediments. Our initial prediction was that the properties of both would be quite similar, because they have similar source and lake conditions, unless diagenetic change had occurred. Rock magnetic and paleomagnetic experiments revealed three stages of magnetization acquisition....
متن کاملAharonov-bohm magnetization of mesoscopic rings caused by inelastic relaxation.
The magnetization of a system of many mesoscopic rings under nonequilibrium conditions is considered. The corresponding disorder-averaged current in a ring I(phi) is shown to be a sum of the "thermodynamic" and "kinetic" contributions both resulting from the electron-electron interaction. The thermodynamic part can be expressed through the diagonal matrix elements J(micro micro) of the current ...
متن کاملContradictory magnetic polarities in sediments and variable timing of neoformation of authigenic greigite
In several recent published studies, paleomagnetic results from greigite-bearing sediments reveal characteristic remanences that are anti-parallel to those carried by coexisting detrital magnetic minerals and polarities that are opposite to those expected for the age of the rock unit. These observations have important implications for the reliability of paleomagnetic data from greigite-bearing ...
